Inter assistant coach Massimiliano Farris doesn’t believe that this evening’s Serie A clash with Napoli is absolutely must-win in the context of the Nerazzurri’s season, but that it will be important.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN ahead of the match, the assistant coach emphasized that the two teams will get a better sense of where they are in the Scudetto race, but that the season is still far from over.

Inter suffered a damaging blow to their Serie A title hopes last weekend when they lost to AC Milan in the derby, reducing their lead at the top of the table to just one point, albeit with a game in hand.

Napoli also pulled to within a point of the Nerazzurri at the top by beating Venezia, and now the two Scudetto rivals face off in a match which would allow the Partenopei to overtake Inter, at least until Inter play their game in hand.

Farris is in charge of the match with head coach Simone Inzaghi serving a one-match suspension following his harsh words to match officials after the derby.

He stated that “It’s certainly an important match but with many matches and points still to be played for, it will not be decisive, but it can be an indicator towards the title.”

He described Federico Dimarco coming in for the suspended Alessandro Bastoni on the left of the defense as “A natural change.”

“D’Ambrosio had done very well in the Coppa Italia, but we have many players and we have chosen eleven to start, there are also many others on the bench who can give us something. Everyone can help carry out our ideas for the team.”

On negating the threat posed by Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, Farris reflected that “In the first match Ranocchia had a great game, and due to our style of play he had to defend one-on-one in certain situations.”

The assistant coach went on that “Osimhen is one of the best strikers in our league, there will be one-on-one situations and also situations with cover.”
