Inter assistant coach Massimiliano Farris believes that the Nerazzurri can go toe to toe with Liverpool in Wednesday’s Champions League round of sixteen clash.

Speaking to InterTV after his team’s 1-1 draw with Napoli in Serie A, the coach emphasized that they are confident heading into the Champions League clash with the Reds over the week.

So far Inter’s return from the January international break has been something of a mixed bag, losing to AC Milan in the derby before beating Roma in the Coppa Italia and now earning a point away to Napoli.

The matches hardly get any easier for the Nerazzurri, however, with Premier League side Liverpool coming up next for them.

The Nerazzurri will have no illusions that Liverpool are anything other than one of the most difficult opponents that they face all season, but they will also look at the spirit and quality they’ve shown in their recent matches and believe that they can hurt the English team.

Looking ahead to the match, Farris said that “We’re Inter and we have to take this feeling of momentum into that match. Sure, the draw was not positive, but it’s fine. We have the quality to give them some difficulty.”

Of the match against Napoli, he said that “Napoli are a great team and they proved it, with a big impact on the match.”

“On a psychological level, their goal ignited the stadium and we showed our quality by putting a damper on the stadium,” he added.

“In the second half, we dominated the possession and in the end we had more,” he went on. “The team showed great character and awareness.”

Farris stated that “It wasn’t easy to put this game back in place – today we had the desire to both control the game and attack with the right balance.”

“We created the chances to score a winner without taking risks,” he added. “And let’s not forget that we had a few days less to prepare for the match, as we put a lot of our focus into the match against Roma in which we obviously used up a lot of energy.”
