Inter defender Federico Dimarco feels that he and his teammates shifted the balance at halftime in their 1-1 draw against Napoli to earn a point after going behind early.
Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 24-year-old emphasized the importance of taking the interval to regroup and collect their bearings so that they could produce a much stronger display in the second half.
Not even five minutes had gone by before the Partenopei made a fast start count by winning a penalty, which Lorenzo Insigne converted, and even after that it was the home side who looked more composed defensively and dangerously going forward.
However, the Nerazzurri responded with a quick goal of their own, just a couple minutes after halftime, and from then on they looked more like the team who had gotten into the position of league leaders.
Neither side managed to find a winner after that, but it was clear that the Nerazzurri had stabilized themselves after having been found wanting during the first half.
“I think we didn’t start very well, conceding a penalty after five minutes is never easy,” Dimarco reflected, “but at halftime we talked and then in the second half we came onto the pitch in a completely different way.”
“In the end we changed the game,” he added.
“It was a while since I last played,” the defender went on, “I always tried to work at my absolute best in training and to earn my place in the team.”
“I’m sorry for the draw because we could have won it,” he added. “Coming here to play against a team who are in good form wasn’t easy, it was important to win but also to not lose.”
And looking forward to Wednesday, Dimarco said “Now of course are focus switches to Liverpool, against whom we will play an even match.”
