Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is determined to bounce back from last weekend’s derby defeat to AC Milan and take back the driver’s seat in the Scudetto race with a win over Napoli.
Speaking to InterTV ahead of this evening’s Serie A clash with the Partenopei, the Dutchman emphasized that the team are not dwelling on the disappointing loss to Rossoneri and are ready to be at their best against their other main Scudetto rivals.
Inter took a damaging blow in the form of a quickfire Olivier Giroud brace in the second half of the derby to reduce their lead at the top of the Serie A table and tighten up the Scudetto race significantly.
De Vrij and his teammates have the opportunity to get their momentum back right away, however, with this evening’s away trip to Napoli.
The Nerazzurri already beat Roma in the Coppa Italia on Tuesday, and now they have the chance to take a similarly important result in the league.
“We have a great desire to achieve a great result and play a great match tonight,” de Vrij said. “The derby is behind us, we reacted in the Coppa and we have to show who we are again tonight.”
“We prepared the game well defensively but also in attack,” he added. “No doubt we’re facing a strong team with very good forwards, we have to work as a team.”
De Vrij predicted an attack-minded match, recalling that “During the first match between us, there were a lot of goals and many chances. Tonight two attacking teams face each other will certainly try to score more goals.”
