Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is aware of the attacking threat that Napoli pose, and in particular striker Victor Osimhen.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN ahead of this evening’s head-to-head Serie A clash with Scudetto rivals the Partenopei, de Vrij emphasized being prepared for the Nigerian’s quality and goal threat.
Inter are hoping to bounce back from last weekend’s derby defeat against AC Milan by beating their other main rivals for the Serie A title in their very next league fixture, but they know that this match won’t be any easier than that one.
Napoli have the best defensive record in the Italian top flight, but are also very formidable going forward, a fact underscored by the return of Osimhen.
The striker had been away with Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations, but marked his return to the team last weekend with a goal against Venezia, and de Vrij and his defensive colleagues will be working hard to keep him off the scoresheet.
“He’s very good,” he said of the Napoli striker,”we have to be careful as a team and defend well.”
On the challenge of scoring against this defensively excellent Napoli side, he said that “It can be done, we did it the first time we faced the. It will be an intense match, between two strong teams who will both try to score.”
And when asked whether he’s satisfied with how the season has gone so far, the Dutchman stated that “Yes, but we can always improve.”
