Former Inter, Sampdoria, and Genoa midfielder Alessandro Scanziani feels that a draw is a result that both Inter and Napoli will be reasonably happy with.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, the 68-year-old gave the view that both teams will feel that they avoided a worse result even though the real benefactors of the draw may well turn out to be AC Milan.

Inter went into yesterday evening’s match knowing that they were staring down the possibility of two consecutive losses to direct title rivals in Serie A if they let the Partenopei take all three points.

However, unlike in the derby against AC Milan, the Nerazzurri earned a point and ensured that they held onto their advantage on at least one major rival.

Napoli, meanwhile, made sure that they kept in touch with the Nerazzurri, just a point behind in the table with Inter having a game in hand, and both sides will have to accept that things will continue to be tight at the top of the table.

Scanziani noted that “When you have to recover from a psychological point of view, fear can take over. The draw is fine, it’s a good result for both teams.”

“In the first half Napoli had the better of the game,” he added, “in the second half I saw the Azzurri in more difficulty.”

The former midfielder explained that “The draw can favour Milan, as long as the Rossoneri manage to win tomorrow. However, the season is still long.”

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Inter, Scanziani explained that “In the Champions League, playing against Liverpool will be very difficult.”

“They will need to play their best possible team,” he added, “they will not be easy matches.”

He also added that “Inter are well-run, nothing to say about transfers or purchases.”
