Italian journalist Niccolo Ceccarini believes that Inter are starting to get closer to agreeing a contract extension with Ivan Perisic past the summer.
Writing in his column for TuttoMercatoSport, the journalist reported that the two parties have been coming closer on a possible renewal for the 33-year-old.
Inter have yet to find an agreement with Perisic on a new deal, but the Croat’s form this season has meant that they increasingly would like to keep him on for at least one or two more seasons.
It remains to be seen if the club will be able to put forward an offer which is enough to convince Perisic to sign a new deal, and also whether he could be tempted by a move elsewhere on a free transfer.
However, according to Ceccarini, recent talks with the player and his representatives have been positive and he could stay past the summer.
“Inter are very active on the contract extension front,” Ceccarini explains. “In fact, there could be an important turning point on the Perisic front.”
He goes on that “Some time ago the situation seemed quite negative with little room to manoeuver. Now, however, something is changing. The parties are talking again and things will update again soon.”
“Simone Inzaghi would like the wing-back duo for next year to be composed of Croatian and Gosens, and is pushing for this project to be realized,” he writes.
“Inter could relaunch by raising their wage offer to €4 million net per season plus add-ons,” he continues.
Should the Nerazzurri be unable to agree an extension with Perisic, Ceccarini reports that “One of the possible alternatives is still Cambiaso from Genoa, whose current contract expires at the end of June 2023.”
