Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola feels that part of the reason for current striker Lautaro Martinez’s recent frustrations is that he is frequently substituted during the second halves of matches.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, Ventola suggested that regularly being taken off in matches could be frustrating for the striker and cause him to struggle for consistency.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has frequently rotated in attack this season, with Martinez as well as Alexis Sanchez, Edin Dzeko, and Joaquin Correa all having regular roles in leading the line either from the start or off the bench.

Martinez has started in most of the Nerazzurri’s recent matches, but more often than not has been taken off midway through the second half.

The coach still appears to have full faith in the 24-year-old who has a prominent role in games, but he has not been able to get on the scoresheet in recent outings and could see his role as getting diminished.

“In my opinion the management of Lautaro is wrong at the moment,” Ventola said. “By now he knows that in every game he’ll be taken off in the 60th minute, and this annoys him.”

“At this point it would make more sense to let Sanchez arts a couple of times,” he added, “because this management is wrong in my view.”
