Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that his team cannot show any fear against Liverpool and must be ambitious in their Champions League tie.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the coach emphasized the importance of being motivated for the round of sixteen clash, and also praised the recent performances of striker Lautaro Martinez.

The Nerazzurri will come up against one of their most formidable opponents of the season when they face Liverpool home and away, but they will also know that the Reds are viewing them in a similar light.

Inzaghi doesn’t want his players to get bogged down mentally, and believes that the most important thing is that they play an ambitious and proactive game.

“We had an excellent group stage because we deservedly beat Shakhtar at home, we all know what a good team they are,” he said.

He added that “We must be an ambitious team and look forward. Tomorrow we will come up against a very strong team, one of the big favourites for the entire competition, and motivation will make the difference.”

On whether their recent wobbles in Serie A could hurt them against the Reds, Inzaghi stated that “I don’t think so, because the real problems come when the team isn’t producing on the pitch.”

“Against  Milan and Napoli we have got worse results than we deserved,” he added, “we have to think game by game, we’ve come off the back of an incredible cycle. We go forward step by step, the next one is Liverpool.”

He also spoke about the performance of Martinez against Napoli, and the Argentine’s overall form, stating that “I think Lautaro just had an excellent performance in Naples, he was important to the team, he did well as Dzeko and Sanchez also did.”

The coach added that “Caicedo is getting himself to the same level as the others by training well every day, and we’re waiting for Correa who gives us a lot.”

“Every coach would like all his weapons available to him,” Inzaghi added, “we are missing some players but we understand that it’s normal to have to play every three days.”
