Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal is set to take the place of suspended Nicolo Barella in the starting eleven for tomorrow evening’s Champions League clash with Liverpool.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will rely on the 34-year-old in midfield for the massive round of sixteen match.
Barella’s suspension for both legs of the Liverpool tie due to a red card against Real Madrid has meant that Inzaghi must decide on the right option to replace the former Cagliari midfielder.
Matias Vecino is still carrying a knee injury and so will not be available for selection, meaning Vidal and Roberto Gagliardini are the two potential options, with the Chilean set to be given the nod.
The Gazzetta note Vidal’s experience in big matches as a factor in the decision to select him for tomorrow’s knockout clash, as well as his proficiency goalscoring runs into the penalty area.
