Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanogly believes that his team’s Champions League round of sixteen tie against Liverpool is evenly poised.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset ahead of tomorrow’s first leg of the tie at San Siro, the 27-year-old emphasized that everything is to play for against the Reds, and also stated that he isn’t worried about falling behind AC Milan.
The Nerazzurri will come up against one of their most formidable opponents of the season in the form of Liverpool, a team who are second in the Premier League and finished top of their group with six wins from six.
However, the Reds will also be coming into the tie feeling that they have drawn one of the most difficult possible opponents.
Calhanoglu is confident ahead of it and feels that the two sides are evenly matched.
“We’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time,” he said of being in the Champions League round of sixteen, “we’re happy to be in the knockout stages of the Champions League.”
“Tomorrow we certainly want to win because we have quality players,” he continued, “we have the chance to go through.”
The midfielder predicted that “It will be an intense match, high on quality, we want to win in front of our fans. And above all we want to enjoy ourselves.”
He gave the view that “I don’t see there being a favourite, I think it’s 50-50, I have faith in my teammates. I play alongside quality players, it will depend on us: if we give our best, we can be decisive.”
And on the Scudetto race with AC Milan, he said that “To tell the truth, I don’t look at the table. We’re on the right track, we were seven points back at one point, now we’re still first because we have a game in hand.”
He concluded that “We’ve shown that we are the best team in Serie A.”
