Inter are the sixteenth-highest revenue earners in the history of the Champions League since its inception in 1992.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri’s €416 million total earnings make them the 16th highest since the competition was rebranded.

The Champions League came about in 1992 as the old European Cup took on a new name, and during the period participation in Europe’s top competition has also become more lucrative for clubs.

Bayern Munich are the highest earners in the competition’s thirty-year history, with €1.037 billion in total revenues taken in from participation, while Real Madrid are narrowly behind them with €1.036 billion.

Barcelona, at €984 million, are the third-highest earners, and Juventus are the highest-earning Italian club from the competition with €934 million taken in over the period.

The Nerazzurri’s opponents for tomorrow Liverpool have earned €575 million from participation in the competition, whilst Roma are just ahead of Inter and city rivals AC Milan are right around on par with them.
