Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that the Champions League tie against Liverpool will be a massive undertaking for the Nerazzurri, but that they are capable of winning it.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Bergomi gave the view that this Inter team have the quality to go through against a formidable Liverpool side, even though it looks very difficult from outside.
The Nerazzurri will always have anticipated a tough opponent in the knockout stages of Europe’s top competition, and were already prepared for extremely difficult opposition in the form of an Ajax team who won all six group stage matches.
However, a re-draw for the round of sixteen due to technical errors with the first draw meant that things look even worse for Inter, who will have to face Liverpool.
The Reds sit second in the Premier League table at the moment, and are winners of the Champions League as recently as 2019.
Bergomi characterized the tie as “A great challenge for Inter, I will be at the stadium as a spectator because I want to enjoy it.”
“It seems like a difficult undertaking to do for Inter, mission impossible almost,” he added. “Liverpool play with pace, with high intensity, but Inter have a chance of giving them a hard time. I’m sure of it.”
