Legendary former Napoli, Parma, and Chelsea midfielder Gianfranco Zola feels that the lack of European football could prove to be an advantage for AC Milan over Inter and Napoli in Serie A.

Speaking to the Vikonos channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the former midfielder identified the fact that the Rossoneri do not have the distraction of European competition as something that could help them in the Scudetto race.

Inter face two of their most difficult matches of the season in the form of the home and away legs of their Champions League round of sixteen clash with Liverpool, and could have further matches in the competition which will require their close attention and energy.

Meanwhile, Scudetto rivals Napoli will face off against Barcelona in the Europa League, a similarly demanding tie which could spread their team thin over the run-in in Serie A.

Milan, by contrast, were eliminated from the Champions League from the group stage, and Zola feels that this could work for them in domestic competition.

“Inter, Milan, and Napoli will fight for the title until the end, and seem to be the teams with something more,” he said, “but I would not rule out a return from Juventus, who also got an important result in Bergamo.”

He went on that “Napoli and Inter have important commitments that will take away a lot of their energy, though it is also the case that big clubs are used to managing these situations.”

“Perhaps Milan have  a certain advantage due to not having to play in Europe,” he added.
