Former Inter, Real Madrid, and Roma defender Christian Panucci feels that Liverpool are the favourites against Inter this evening and that the Nerazzurri must take risks to beat them.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Infinity, as reported by FCInterNews, the 48-year-old emphasized that the Nerazzurri have a lot to prove against the Reds and must be fearless in trying to beat a very strong opponent.

Liverpool were one of the most formidable opponents who Inter could have drawn in the round of sixteen of Europe’s top competition, having won the entire thing in 2019.

The Reds finished top of a difficult group with six wins from six and are currently second in the Premier League table.

If the Nerazzurri are passive and allow the Reds to impose their game then they’ll have little chance in the tie but, as Panucci emphasized, if they are more proactive then they will have a chance of getting the better of their opposition.

“It’s tough for the Nerazzurri,” the former defender said, “it remains to be seen if Liverpool will let them play their game.”

“Inter must show the desire to take risks,” he added, “the most difficult stadium where I have played is Anfield, it’s incredible. The Reds are favourites, Inter must win back their credibility in Europe.”
