Former Liverpool defender Fabio Aurelio feels that Inter must produce the best performance that they’re capable of in order to have any chance of getting past his old side in the Champions League.

Speaking to Italian news outlet L’Interista, the Brazilian gave the view that Liverpool are currently an almost perfect machine and that the Nerazzurri must be the best version of themselves to stay with them.

The Reds have shown throughout this season how formidable they are, finishing top of a difficult Champions League group with six wins from six while sitting second in the Premier League table.

The 2019 Champions League winners will not be straightforward opposition by any means, and the Nerazzurri must hope that they can find something to exploit about their opponents.

Aurelio believes that this could well prove to be beyond Inter, though, stating that “Liverpool have always been a top club, always tough to come up against. Since Klopp’s arrival, however, they have become even stronger.”

“They play more aggressive football,” he added, “as well as having a very high-level as a squad as usual. I have no doubt about them being one of the hardest clubs in the world to beat right now.”

He went on that “Liverpool play aggressively, as I said before, they press very high to win the ball back. And even once they have taken the lead, they continue to do it.”

“And even if they come up against a team capable of pushing back against them, they are capable of doing it anyway,” he stressed.

Aurelio spoke of Liverpool’s “Deadly counter-attacks. These are the reasons why in my opinion today it is very difficult to think of beating them.”

“Obviously Inter also have strengths of their own that they will try to exploit, and every detail can make a difference,” he added.

“I have always liked Inter, and Italian football,” the Brazilian said. “I would have liked to have been able to play there, but unfortunately no opportunity ever came up.”

“In this great competition of the Champions League, every little detail can make the difference,” he added. “You don’t have time to recover, to rest. Both teams will have to be at the top if they want to continue their journey in Europe.”
