Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is in a relaxed mood ahead of this evening’s Champions League clash with Liverpool despite recognizing the importance of the match.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Amazon Prime ahead of the match, the 27-year-old emphasized that he’s calm and looking forward to a special match in the round of sixteen first leg against the Reds.

The Nerazzurri have made it to the knockout stages of Europe’s top competition for the first time in a decade, and they will be facing one of the strongest possible opponents as they seek to progress even further.

The match could be a major milestone in the Nerazzurri’s season if they can get a victory against the toughest opposition on the biggest stage, in front of their fans.

However, Calhanoglu does not feel anxious, but wants to approach the match with composure to try and help his team to the result that they want.

“I’m feeling good,” he said, “Liverpool are an important match not just for me but for all of Inter. We know that they’re strong, I’ve known Klopp since he was coaching in the Bundesliga. I feel physically prepared.”

He added that “I don’t feel the pressure, I’m always calm and focused on what I have to do. I have to do my best on the pitch, that’s what counts.”

“I like how the team plays, I’m enjoying myself,” he added. “We have shown that we’re capable of, shown our quality, but against the Reds we have to do more.”

The midfielder went on that “If I don’t score or assist, I still want to give my all for the team. Sacrifice is necessary, the team is always the first priority.”
