Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu feels that progression past Liverpool in the Champions League would already represent a major achievement in his Nerazzurri career.

Speaking in the official matchday program for this evening’s clash with the Reds, the 27-year-old emphasized what making it to the quarter-finals of the competition would represent and also talked about the biggest moments in his time with the club so far.

Calhanoglu arrived at Inter from city rivals AC Milan, and already he has done quite a bit to establish himself in a Nerazzurri shirt.

The Turk really announced himself with his strong performance and calmly-taken penalty against his former side the Rossoneri in the derby, and was crucial as they surged to the top of the table.

Now, Calhanoglu has the chance to help the Nerazzurri to the last eight of the Champions League, having already played a big role in reaching the knockout stages of Europe’s top competition for the first time in a decade.

“Since I arrived I’ve been lucky enough to play in some incredible and important matches,” he said. “The one that was most special for me was certainly my first derby for this club, I scored and helped the team in a game that is obviously very special for the fans.”

He went on that “Inter is a great club in my eyes, since I arrived I’ve put my heart on the pitch doing my best to help the team.”

“Being in contention on all fronts must always be our goal,” he added, “we know that we’re a quality team with great players.”

Of this evening’s match he said that “We will come up againsta strong team in the form of Liverpool, and we want to give our best, winning is our and a dream.”

He added that “We expect an intense match, Liverpool are a difficult team to face, they have quality players.”

The midfielder explained that “I know Klopp, and they have players up front like Mane and Salah who can make the difference, but we have to concentrate on ourselves and try to impose our game on the pitch.”
