Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta has said that Inter have never had the sort of European status that they have right now, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking whilst on Sky Sport after the match against Liverpool, via FCInter1908, Alessandro Costacurta said that Inter can take a lot of strength from the first leg at San Siro and try to use that when they face Liverpool in the return leg at Anfield.

“Inter have never had European status like this. Such an intense match, with so much desire. They put Liverpool in difficulty. The result is penalizing but it can give Inter the strength to go and score goals at Anfield.”

Alessandro Costacurta then had some criticism for Inter striker Lautaro Martinez who did not have a very impressive display against Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The former AC Milan defender feels that he is not in a great patch right now although the two Liverpool defenders were very strong.

“Lautaro? I think his game is not enough, today he is not in the best form. It is true that the two Liverpool defenders are strong. Skriniar was exceptional. The three behind played a great match.”

Inter lost the game thanks to two goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah in the final 15 minutes of the match, meaning they must score twice at Anfield to go to extra time.
