Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has said that he is proud of what the team did in the defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media.

Speaking after the match to Mediaset Infinity, via FCInternews, the former Lazio coach showed how much pride he has in his team but admitted that he is obviously still not happy with the result of the match, which ended 2-0 to Liverpool.

“I’m proud of what the team did, happy with the performance but obviously not with the result because we didn’t deserve it. This is football, considering the opponent, this is one of the best matches of the season. We didn’t manage to score and in the first 25 minutes of the second half we deserved more.”

Simone Inzaghi also said that there won’t be any backlash from his team in their next Serie A game, they will just take the confidence from the match having played well against one of the best teams in Europe.

“I don’t think there will be a backlash, this performance must give us great confidence because we played on par with one of the strongest teams in Europe.”

Inter were very impressive at San Siro for the majority of the game against Liverpool but then conceded twice in the final 15 minutes. The goals for Liverpool came from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah which means Inter are unlikely to qualify.
