Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries feels that even at 2-0 down after the first leg against Liverpool, the Nerazzurri aren’t out of their Champions League round of sixteen tie.

Speaking to Amazon Prime Video after the match, the Dutchman stressed that he and his teammates would still work to reverse the result in the second leg at Anfield in three weeks’ time.

The Nerazzuri’s performance was encouraging for much of the night against Liverpool, perhaps the strongest team they’ve faced all season, but two late goals left them with a mountain to climb in the second leg.

The Reds will have to be considered favourites to see out their advantage and get to the quarter-finals, but the Nerazzurri aren’t giving up and will want to give them something to think about.

Dumfries has no doubt that he and his teammates will give it a go when they have a chance to reverse the deficit at Anfield.

“I think we played well at the beginning,” he said. “We fought, we kept the lines tight; we made it difficult for them to play under pressure.”

“In the end we gave them opportunities to score but 0-2 is an exaggerated result,” he added, “we did our best.”

On the potential for a comeback in the second leg he said that “Of course it’s possible, every game is different. It won’t be easy but I believe in our qualities, we will go there to play and to win.”
