Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries feels that his team were unfortunate not to get a better result from their Champions League clash with Liverpool yesterday evening.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the 25-year-old gave the view that the Nerazzurri didn’t deserve the 2-0 result on the basis of their performance, but that they had to accept that it comes as a damaging blow.

Inter aren’t out of the Champions League yet, but they will know that coming back from this evening’s result at Anfield in three weeks’ time will be nothing short of a massive undertaking.

The result is disappointing, but there are still many encouraging aspects of the performance, and Dumfries focused on these positive elements in addition to the frustration with the result.

The Dutchman emphasized that with what they showed against opposition of the calibre of the Reds, he and his teammates demonstrated that the future can be bright for them.

“It’s a very tough defeat to swallow because we fought, we controlled the game, we had our chances and we were the better team in possession,” he said.

“It’s an undeserved result, our,” Dumfries added, ” our game was good, especially in the second half. It’s a shame because we fought a lot.”

On improvements made personally and by the team, the 25-year-old stated that “I’m trying to improve and grow to become a better player.”

“Surely we also grow through these matches,” he added, “we see that we’re growing a lot as a team after this difficult run of games.”
