Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has said that the Champions League game against Liverpool was Inter’s best of the season so far, according to a report in the Italian media.
Speaking during his press conference after the match, via FCInternews, the Inter boss explained that he was extremely proud of how his team played against one of the best teams in Europe.
“I think it was an excellent match that we are proud of. We played against one of the best teams in Europe, for seventy-five minutes we deserved to win the game.”
He then lamented the wasteful nature of Inter’s performance in front of goal which proved costly as Liverpool then scored with their first effort on target in the game through a Roberto Firmino header.
“Then, unfortunately, we were not rewarded in front of goal after carelessness on our part. We hit the crossbar and then their goal was from the first shot on target. But this is football and I will remember this evening. I congratulate the team, I’m proud of them and our fans who cheered us on from start to finish.”
Simone Inzaghi was then asked if there was a chance that Inter could turn the two goal deficit around at Anfield. He said that he wants the fans to see another performance like the first leg, but with a different result.
“I think and hope the fans will see another match like tonight’s but with a different result because considering the value of the opponent, we played our best match of the season.”
Inter lost the match at San Siro 2-0 after late goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.
