Former Inter winger Francesco Moriero believes that his old side the Nerazzurri are the favourites in the Scudetto race but that they must compete in an open challenge.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the 52-year-old gave the view that Inter look to be the best-placed team for the Serie A title, but that there are several teams who are in with a chance of going all the way.

The Nerazzurri sit one point ahead of Napoli and one behind city rivals AC Milan, albeit having a game in hand on both, with Juventus and Atalanta lurking a few points behind them.

All of the teams will feel that what happens in the run-in is crucial to their Scudetto hopes, and all have already shown the potential quality to make a push, but for Moriero it is ultimately Inter who have the bit of extra quality to make them favourites.

“They lost a bit of momentum in the derby, but did did everything needed to win,” he said. “However, this takes nothing away from the quality of Inter’s football or the progress they’ve made.”

Of the Scudetto race he added that “It’s an open race. In the Italian league balance is vital. However, Inter are the main contenders to win the Scudetto. They are a team who are growing in terms of character.”
