Italian journalist Stefano De Grandis feels that Inter’s 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday evening will have left a particularly bitter taste in their mouths.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, De Grandis emphasized the particularly frustrating nature of the defeat given that on the balance the Nerazzurri created opportunities to score but couldn’t take anything from the match.

Inter tried to impose their style and tempo of football on the Reds, as did their opponents, and both teams enjoyed spells in the ascendancy.

In the end, however, it was a defensive switch-off on a corner that allowed the away team to score a vital opener, while a deflected Mohamed Salah effort from a set piece a few minutes later left the Nerazzurri with an even bigger mountain to climb.

Now Inter must pick themselves back up for tomorrow’s Serie A clash with Sassuolo, another key match for their title hopes.

“Inter come off the back of a cruel game, in which they played very well,” De Grandis said. “Barella, who did not play against Liverpool, will be able to play a good game and put all his energy to good use.”

“Another key surprise could be Darmian, who I believe will play for Dumfries,” he added.
