Legendary former Juventus and Roma midfielder Zbigniew Boniek feels that Inter are the favourites for the Serie A title ahead of Napoli, but that the race is still a very open one.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the Pole gave the view that the form of the teams in the run-in will ultimately determine who wins the Scudetto.

Inter sit a point behind city rivals AC Milan and a point ahead of Napoli in the table currently, albeit having a game in hand on both of their main title rivals.

The Rossoneri and the Partenopei are also set to face each other in a couple weeks’ time, a clash which should benefit the Nerazzurri, whilst the Nerazzurri’s overall form has looked to be strong.

However, as the end of the campaign comes closer into view with all three teams locked in a close race for the title, the outcome could come down to how they perform in a few key matches late in the season.

“As with a horse race, you have to wait for how the teams will do down the final sprint,” Boniek said, “it will depend on whether Napoli have all their best players fit and available.”

He went on that “I still see Inter as a bit ahead, but anything is possible.”
