Inter defender Stefan de Vrij feels that nothing went right for his team in this evening’s Serie A defeat at the hands of Sassuolo, but wants to immediately put it behind the team.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the Dutchman emphasized the importance of not dwelling on the disappointment of the third loss experienced by the Nerazzurri in Serie A this season with many more important matches to come.

Inter conceded twice in a first half that saw them overrun by the Neroverdi, and then in the second they were unable to break through, while their opponents also created a number of good chances to score a third.

The match was an opportunity for the Nerazzurri to bounce back from their midweek loss to Liverpool and also to capitalize on yesterday’s stumble by AC Milan away to Salernitana.

Instead, they saw their Scudetto hopes handed a blow, and now they will have to quickly recover as they head into the rest of their season.

“Today started very badly,” de Vrij said, “we started badly and we allowed them to counter too often. They were good on the break, we made a lot of mistakes in buildup, then they scored, it was truly a first half to forget. ”

He then stressed that ““We have to bounce back right away, this game is already in the past, we have to analyze it and there will certainly be things we can take away and learn from, but we have to look forward.”

“In the second half we created many chances,” he added, “but we weren’t able to find a goal. It was a very bad day for us indeed.”

The defender continued that “In the first half we had little clarity, we were imprecise, we lost a lot of balls in midfield and they counterattacked easily. We were really bad in the first half.”
