Italian journalist Giancarlo Padovan feels that Inter cannot afford anything other than three points in this evening’s Serie A clash with Sassuolo.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the journalist emphasized the need for the Nerazzurri to get a win this evening in order to hold off the advances of Napoli in particular in the table.

Inter were handed a boost yesterday when city rivals AC Milan dropped points away to Salernitana, giving them the opportunity to regain top spot in the Serie A table.

However, victory against the Neroverdi is by no means a foregone conclusion, and the Nerazzurri will have to take the right approach and be at their best to ensure that they capitalize on the Rossoneri’s stumble.

Meanwhile, Napoli are also lurking close at hand in the tight Scudetto race, set to face Cagliari tomorrow evening, and they will be hoping that Inter follow their city rivals’ example with a stumble today.

“Inter certainly cannot show any weakness against Sassuolo,” Padovan said, “first, because they will have two important absences in the form Brozovic and possibly Dzeko who could be left out at the coach’s decision.”

“It’s a game that they must win,” he added, “there are no other options. Napoli will be watching with great interest, because if Inter don’t beat Sassuolo, the Azzurri would have a great opportunity against Cagliari.”

“I believe that Inter will win and that they’re on track for the Scudetto,” he concluded, “but let’s be clear that Napoli aren’t a third wheel in the race.”
