Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is set to take the place of the suspended Marcelo Brozovic at the base of midfield in this evening’s Serie A clash with Sassuolo.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who note that the 25-year-old is the player who has the right characteristics to replace the 29-year-old.

Brozovic is suspended for this evening’s match following an accumulation of yellow cards, and it will be the first match in Serie A that the Croat has not started for the Nerazzurri.

The 29-year-old has been a key player for Inter this season because his particular characteristics are unique, and no player in the squad can perfectly replicate his composure and precision in setting the tempo of the team’s passing game.

However, of the other midfielders in the squad, it is Barella who comes the closest to the Croat on a technical level, and he will come back into the team with the hunger to show his best after having been frustrated to miss Wednesday’s Champions League loss to Liverpool through suspension.
