Inter started without the likes of Edin Dzeko and Marcelo Brozovic in yesterday evening’s Serie A clash, and they showed frailty in possession on the way to their third Serie A defeat of the season.

Writing on his Facebook page after the match, as reported by FCInter1908, Italian journalist Enrico Mentana identified the pair’s absence as the key reason behind the poor performance and loss by the Nerazzurri.

Inter struggled to hold onto the ball for sustained sequences in the first half against Sassuolo, frequently allowing the Neroverdi to coutnerattack quickly from loose passes and touches in midfield.

Brozovic at the base of midfield and Dzeko leading the line have been two of the team’s main points of reference to set the tempo in possession throughout the campaign, but both were missing with the former suspended and the latter left out.

Mentana feels that both were sorely missed and that the Nerazzurri look well off their best when the duo are both not playing.

“Without Dzeko and Brozovic, Inter are a giant with feet of clay,” he writes.
