Inter forward Alexis Sanchez did not reward the faith shown in him by being started against Sassuolo in yesterday’s disastrous 2-0 Serie A defeat.

The 33-year-old was identified as one of the Nerazzurri’s worst players in an overall poor team display in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who called his performance “more like a kitten than a lion.”

Sanchez was started in his usual role of second striker, but nothing seemed to come off for the Chilean who looked far from being one of the Nerazzurri’s form players as he had in some recent matches.

The Corriere gave Sanchez a score of just 4/10 in their player ratings for the match, the same grade given to Lautaro Martinez who was similarly toothless and ineffective in the final third when his team were desperate for a goal.

Captain Samir Handanovic was also given just a 4.5/10 score for his display, with the way he let Giacomo Raspadori’s opener for the Neroverdi roll through his legs particularly noted, but almost no Inter players got positive scores.

The likes of Milan Skriniar, Ivan Perisic, and Denzel Dumfries were noted as the rare bright spots in a mostly inadequate display, with the latter even given a respectable 6.5/10 grade for his efforts after coming on at halftime.
