Legendary former Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero feels that after yesterday’s Serie A defeat to Sassuolo, Inter are at a crucial juncture in their season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Del Piero gave the view that how the Nerazzurri react to what increasingly looks like a crisis will be key in determining whether they defend the Scudetto.

Inter had hoped to bounce back from a bruising sequence of matches against AC Milan, Napoli, and Liverpool with a win over Sassuolo, but instead had their misery deepened as the Neroverdi overran them in the first half to run out 2-0 winners.

Now, the Nerazzurri find themselves in a tighter race with the Rossoneri and the Partenopei than ever for the Serie A title, and they have little margin for error if they wish to come out on top.

Del Piero gave the view that Inter are at “A critical moment. How they comes out of this moment will tell how ready Inter are for the Scudetto.”

He stressed that “When you play at home you have to win and they had a significant opportunity. But Sassuolo also won against Juve and against Milan, they’re at their best against the big teams.”

He added that “Inter have some problems and they have been highlighted even more. And the Nerazzurri were also unlucky. This season, beyond Lautaro’s missed chances, they give the sense that they can score in a lot of ways and not just through the forward.”

Of the Nerazzurri’s schedule, he said that “Inter have had a very intense period, now a kinder one is on the way. The Nerazzurri played in the Supercoppa because they won and were happy to go for it.”

“In the derby against Milan,” he went on, “Inter dominated, or almost dominated. If they doesn’t have that quarter of an hour where Milan did all their damage, things would look much better today.”

“Inter won a decisive match in the form of the Supercoppa final, and have always stood up even in defeat,” he added. “Last year Inter created a watershed, they showed that Juve could be beaten after so many years.”
