Few Inter players came out of yesterday evening’s Serie A defeat against Sassuolo with any credit.
Only the likes of Milan Skriniar, Denzel Dumfries, and Ivan Perisic received decent scores in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who were otherwise heavily critical of the team.
Perisic was named as the most positive display among the Nerazzurri’s players despite his error to allow Gianluca Scamacca to score the second goal in thinking that the Neroverdi striker was in an offside position.
Meanwhile, the defensive efforts of Skriniar are singled out as a rare bright spot in a mostly inadequate display by the team, and Dumfries also got a passing grade for what he showed after coming on in the second half.
Apart from this trio, however, the Gazzetta could not award positive scores to any Nerazzurri players, after a match which saw the team overrun in the first half and then toothless in the second.
Striker Lautaro Martinez received the lowest score of the players, just 4/10 for an inefficient performance in the final third by the Argentine who looks worryingly out-of-form.
Meanwhile, head coach Simone Inzaghi received the same score as Martinez, having gotten his team selection and tactics all wrong to let the Neroverdi get the better of the first half, particularly Nicolo Barella playing as the regista in place of the suspended Marcelo Brozovic.
The displays by Roberto Gagliardini and Alexis Sanchez were rated at 4.5/10 by the Gazzetta, but in general no Inter players came in for much praise after the damaging defeat.
