Inter have been left without a natural backup to Marcelo Brozovic in the team after they allowed Stefano Sensi to leave on loan during the January transfer window.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that with Nicolo Barella apparently unsuited to the job, the Nerazzurri miss Sensi a lot during his loan spell at Sampdoria.

Inter suffered their third defeat of the Serie A season in yesterday’s match against Sassuolo, and in some ways it was the most damaging of the lot, and came about from the worst performance.

The Nerazzurri lacked control and tempo in the centre of pitch, particularly in the first half when they were overrun by a Sassuolo team who looked like capitalizing on every loose pass or first touch.

Barella was playing in Brozovic’s usual role with the Croat serving a one-match suspension, and the 25-year-old did not particularly look up to the task, unfamiliar in the role and not always finding the right passes.

For the Gazzetta, this showed that right now Brozovic is a truly irreplaceable player within the Nerazzurri’s team, while they further note that Sensi is a player with the qualities to potentially fill in for the 29-year-old.

Unfortunately for Inter, Sensi is currently on loan at Sampdoria for the rest of the season, having left in search of more regular playing time.

The 26-year-old is hoping to restart his career in Liguria having not featured much over the first half of the campaign due to injuries and the wealth of other options, but he could well be missed more than expected at his parent club.
