Former Inter defender Ze Maria feels that current Nerazzurri midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is one of the top midfielders in all of Europe.
Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the 48-year-old gave the view that only Paris Saint-German’s Marco Verratti is currently on the same level as the Croat in terms of midfielders.
Brozovic was sorely missed in the Nerazurri’s 2-0 loss to Sassuolo over the weekend, a result which underlined his importance to the team by the problems caused by his absence.
With the 29-year-old expected to sign a contract extension very soon, Inter can continue to rely on his influence in the centre of the pitch, and in the view of Maria this is vital for the team.
The Brazilian explained the importance of Brozovic to the team and the midfielder’s unique qualities.
“Brozovic is having an exceptional season, he is the best player at Inter, the most in-form,” he explained, elaborating that “He starts and defines the moves – finding someone like that is difficult, no one else is at that level except perhaps Verratti.”
