Former Parma, Fiorentina, and Hellas Verona coach Alberto Malesani feels that Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is a special player.

Speaking to Verona-based newspaper L’Arena in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, the former coach highlighted the 25-year-old’s workrate and personality as qualities that he enjoys and named him as his current favourite player.

Barella has grown virtually season upon season since joining Inter in the summer of 2019 from Cagliari, rounding out his technical profile and also emerging as a leader and also a potential future captain for the Nerazzurri.

The 25-year-old has also become one of the Italian national team’s main men in midfield, and now looks to have a future as one of the top midfielders in European football for several seasons to come.

Malesani is a big fan of the Nerazzurri midfielder, and enjoys watching him more than anyone else currently within the senior game.

“My absolute favorite player is Michele Cossato, he never forgot what I did for him,” he said. “Today I really like Nicolo Barella, an exuberant footballer with great personal qualities.”
