Inter are close to offering a contract extension to Samir Handanovic and should do so within the coming days or weeks.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri will offer the 37-year-old a new deal to stay on while his long-term successor Andre Onana adjusts to life at the club.

Handanovic has come in for some criticism this season for a number of costly errors, although he has also shown his continued quality across a number of his performances and is also still the captain and an influential figure in the dressing room.

The club are aiming to keep the Slovenian on for at least another season, and with his current deal set to expire at the end of June they will not waste any time in trying to get the agreement on a renewal with the captain wrapped up.
