Inter’s Serie A loss to Sassuolo was a stark demonstration not just of what the team miss when Marcelo Brozovic isn’t on the pitch, but also of their lack of a backup to the Croat.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Il Giornale, who argue that the Nerazzurri made an error in allowing Stefano Sensi to leave on loan as he was the most suited player to deputize for Brozovic.

Sensi left in search of more regular playing time and will hope that he can get his form back to its best in his dry loan with Sampdoria over the rest of the campaign, but he could already be missed by his parent club.

The Nerazzurri relied on Nicolo Barella to take the role that Brozovic usually occupies against the Neroverdi, but the 25-year-old never really looked comfortable.

Il Giornale note that it actually looked to be Sassuolo duo Davide Frattesi and Maxime Lopez who had control of the tempo for much of the game, and with the former reportedly an Inter target, could have given the Nerazzurri a show of what they’re missing.

However, the newspaper particularly stressed the significance of the absence of Sensi, as he had been a player already in the team who had the composed passing ability and vision most similar to Brozovic but was allowed to leave on loan.
