Former Inter and AC Milan defender Fulvio Collovati believes that the Nerazzurri are still the likeliest team to go on and win the Scudetto, but that they look worse for wear.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, the former defender suggested that none of the three teams in the Scudetto race look fully capable of taking control of the Serie A title in the run-in.

Inter can still boast significant quality and a strong record this season despite their worrying recent decline in form, and this will give the team faith that they can go on and win the Scudetto.

However, the difficulties that they have experienced in recent matches, not least Sunday’s stinging defeat at the hands of Sassuolo, have looked like the faltering of a team who have expended a great deal of energy.

Should the Nerazzurri get back their physical and mental energy then they can return to their best form and take control of the title race, but if tiredness becomes a persistent issue then their Scudetto credentials are in doubt.

“Lautaro and Dzeko’s goals are missing from the team, they don’t work well together,” Collovati. “And now there is also an evident tiredness – Barella, De Vrij, Handanovic are below their usual standard.”

“There is also a tactical question,” he added, “now all opponents man-mark Brozovic.”

“The favourites remain Inter,”  he continued, citing “more experience, greater quality. But the title race will remain very open right up until the end. The details will make the difference.”
