Former Inter midfielder Pietro Fanna has said that Lautaro Martinez may be suffering because of Edin Dzeko’s way of playing the game, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during an interview with L’Interista, Pietro Fanna explained that Edin Dzeko is not powerful and fast like Romelu Lukaku was and that may be why Lautaro Martinez has been in poor form for much of this current season.

“Perhaps he suffers a little from Dzeko’s characteristics: he is not Lukaku, who was powerful and fast. Not having these characteristics, he doesn’t create the spaces for the Belgian, he’s more of a tower that defends the ball and plays the game. I think it’s the midfielders who have to help the attackers the most.”

Pietro Fanna also explained that strikers can still help the team towards a victory even if they do not score a goal themselves.

“A striker must know that he can do great things in certain moments and sometimes go without a goal. However, this should not be a burden: if one does not score, it does not mean that he cannot contribute to the victory anyway. The goal is decisive, but it must not be an obsession.”

Whilst that is true, Lautaro Martinez has now not scored from open play for Inter since December and is very close to losing his place in the team to Alexis Sanchez.

The Chilean forward has taken many of his chances when they have been give to him by Simone Inzaghi and the same cannot be said for Lautaro Martinez.
