Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has said that he is convinced his team will be scoring regularly again very soon, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking during his press conference ahead of the match on Friday, via FCInternews, Simone Inzaghi was asked about how he is approaching Lautaro Martinez’s lack of goals at the moment. The coach instead focused on the wider team.

“A lot has been said in the last few days. We are still the best attack in Serie A, there is no attacking problem. The concern increases if you fail to create, on Sunday with Sassuolo, even if it was not one of the best performances, we had 20 shots and created clear chances. I am convinced that we will be back to scoring soon.”

Simone Inzaghi does not appear to be underestimating the ability of Genoa despite them being second to bottom in the table.

“We’ll meet a good opponent who in the last four games has always drawn by playing excellent, intense football. We will find an organised team, which is fighting for salvation. It will be a delicate match.”

When asked about what Inter could achieve this season, the coach remained coy and said that all he focuses on is delivering what the owners asked of him at the start of the season.

“I only think about what the owners asked me to do: to maintain a position in the Champions League, reach the round of 16 of the tournament and try to win the Super Cup. Right now we need balance, I’ve seen it in the club and in the team.

“The fans were wonderful on Sunday, the balance represents the concept well. In the summer there was alarmism, now after a defeat I heard a lot of it, but as we have always done even in the victories we analysed where we could do better in these final matches.”

The former Lazio coach says that he knows how important the potential renewal of Marcelo Brozovic’s contract is, along with other players who are in talks for new deals.

“I think so, we know its importance. How important were the renewals of Barella, Lautaro, as I hope Perisic and Handanovic will be. These are situations that belong to the company, the managers work 24 hours a day to ensure that the team is always competitive.”

The boss seems to put the recent poor run of form down to some mental tiredness that the squad has been experiencing, saying: “In the middle of the season we were less vulnerable, we were probably fresher mentally. We know we have to defend and attack better because in the last few games we have not been able to score. It is unusual for us and we are working to defend better.”

Simone Inzaghi refused to be dragged into talk of the title race and how decisive the current period is.

“We are in a very important moment, not yet decisive. We have to do this month, which will be very challenging, in the best of ways. Everything is also open to Juventus and Atalanta, who would get close to each other in a row of matches.

“As mentioned, we have to do this part of the season in the best possible way, knowing that we have to recover all the players. Lately we have had defections due to suspensions and injuries, the hope is to have everyone available.”

Inter are away from home on Friday night and the coach thinks it will be very important to have the support of the travelling fans.

“Very important. The guys from the Curva were extraordinary also on Sunday, we were down and we were supported from the first to the last minute. They will come again, I think they are happy with what we have done since July in a moment of great unknowns. We have done an excellent job that has raised expectations, we are happy and proud of it.”

Inter are hopeful that new signing Robin Gosens will soon be fit enough to play for the team and Simone Inzaghi revealed his current progress.

“He did his first complete training yesterday, it’s a great feeling. He has been out since the end of September, for us it is important and we all strongly believe in him. We will do today’s training, I will talk to him and make a decision.

“He is missing from the pitch for five months, it takes patience but we are as confident as we are for Correa. He could be available for the derby and he is a great resource for us.”

Simone Inzaghi did not agree with suggestions that Ivan Perisic could be used as another striker once Robin Gosens is fit.

“Perisic is having a great season. He has been used as a striker on a few occasions, he has great quality and in his role he is doing extraordinary things. With Correa I will have all the forwards shortly and so I think Perisic can stay in that position where he is doing very well.”

Finally, Simone Inzaghi revealed that Felipe Caicedo is working well towards his Inter debut, saying: “As soon as he arrived he had a fitness issue. Now he is working very well. I could have included him on Sunday, the way the game went did not allow me to but he is an alternative that I want.”
