Inter coach Simone Inzaghi urged his players to remain focused and remember that they are champions after struggling to a goalless draw against Genoa in Serie A yesterday.

The Nerazzurri laboured against the Grifone as they failed to score for the third time in four games, leading to further questions about the quality of Inter’s attack.

However, Inzaghi used his press conference at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris to argue that the team did not lack the right mentality, as reported by FCInterNews.it, having won the Scudetto last season.

“No there is not an issue with mentality, the players are winners and they proved it with the Scudetto and the Super Cup. We were used to winning, but we have to remain lucid, analyse the game and we will soon be back to winning ways,” the former Lazio coach claimed.

Inter had the best chances against Genoa but squandered their opportunities, to the frustration of Inzaghi, and the coach felt that they had done enough to win the game.

“Apart from the first quarter of an hour, we covered the pitch well, on a ground where it was not easy to play. We had many shots from different angles. It was a game to win, but obviously we had to do more to turn the episodes in our favour.

“We knew Genoa would be aggressive, in a great moment physically and mentally, despite their league position. They are an organised team, difficult to beat at the moment.”

Inzaghi opted to leave striker Lautaro Martinez on the bench in favour of Alexis Sanchez, and justified his decision due to the mounting fixtures that Inter have been tackling.

“Lautaro, [Milan] Skriniar and others were out because fatigue builds up and I have to be good at rotating the players,” Inzaghi added.
