Italian journalist Fabio Caressa feels that Alexis Sanchez should not be in consideration for the regular starting spot in attack at Inter despite some recent flashes of brilliance.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Deejay, Caressa gave the view that Lautaro Martinez’s pedigree makes him the clear choice to start regularly over Sanchez.

Sanchez started against Genoa yesterday evening, with the Chilean given the nod to try and fire the attack after Martinez had been poor in front of goal in his past few matches.

However, despite the fact that Martinez is undeniably not in good form, Sanchez did not look much better, and the 33-year-old’s performance was part of why the Nerazzurri were unable to break through against the Griffone.

Caressa feels that Inter shouldn’t be considering Sanchez as a starter, and that they must keep putting their faith in Martinez instead if they wish to get out of their slump.

“I don’t understand how there is any competition between them for the starting spot,” he said, “one did very well last year, and the other scored in the Coppa Italia.”
