Referee Daniele Chiffi had few major decisions to make in yesterday evening’s goalless draw between Inter and Genoa in Serie A, but got them all correct according to Italian media.

The official was praised in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, who argue that he handled the match well and got the penalty decisions spot-on in awarding neither team a spot kick.

Chiffi mostly looked focused on allowing the game to flow at the Marassi, not whistling for minor infringements and also correctly playing advantage when the situation called for it.

The official handed out a few yellow cards, but according to the Corriere they were all correct decisions, while the newspaper also argues that he was correct in not sending Ivan Perisic off for a strong early challenge despite some Genoa appeals.

Meanwhile, there were three penalty appeals in the match, the first from Genoa for contact made by Edin Dzeko on Filippo Melegoni in the area and then the next two from Inter for incidents on Dzeko at the other end.

In all three cases Melegoni had no interest in pointing to the spot, and in the view of the Corriere this was entirely correct.
