Italian journalist Giancarlo Padovan believes that Inter’s midfield has looked some way off its best in recent matches.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Padovan identified the midfield form as one of the Nerazzurri’s main problems in their run of disappointing results over the past few weeks.

The trio of Marcelo Brozovic, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella had been at the heart of some of Inter’s most emphatic displays this season, and they are still the first-choice midfield.

However, the three did not look to be at their best during the Nerazzurri’s last two matches, against the likes of Sassuolo and Genoa.

Brozovic missed out on the loss to the Neroverdi in which the Nerazzurri were overrun in central areas before looking unable to dictate the tempo without him, but even the Croat’s return to the team did not make them look much more incisive against Genoa.

“The midfield is in bad form at the moment,” Padovan said, “Barella is out of form, the same is true of Brozovic and Calhanoglu.”

He also stated of the Nerazzurri’s summer transfer business that “By selling players and financing themselves, they did well in the transfer market, and they have the strongest squad except for perhaps Napoli.”
