Inter face off against city rivals AC Milan for the 26th time in the Coppa Italia, and will be hoping that they can improve their record against their city rivals in the competition.

This is noted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who point out that in the past when the Milan derby has been played in the Coppa Italia, the Rossoneri have won ten times while Inter have won eight times and seven matches have ended in draws.

The Milan derby is always one of Italian football’s showpiece occasions, and it takes on even more significance when it is played in a Coppa Italia knockout clash.

The last time the two sides met in the competition was last season, in a match which went the way of the Nerazzurri through a dramatic Christian Eriksen winner late on, and is remembered for the clash between Romelu Lukaku and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Meanwhile, the last time that the two sides met in the semi-finals of the competition was during the 1984-85 season, when the Rossoneri prevailed thanks to a 2-1 win in the first leg, with the second ending in a draw.
