Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi feels that Inter’s recent dip in form has been caused by the number of matches that they’ve played wearing them down.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Bergomi highlighted how the Nerazzurri have appeared tired in some of their recent performances.

Inter have played at a rate of two matches per week since returning from the winter break, including key clashes with the likes of Atalanta, Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli, and Liverpool.

These fixtures have taken a lot of energy out of the team, especially considering that in the Supercoppa Italia against Juventus, and in the Coppa Italia against Empoli, they had to go to extra time.

The team have dropped points in their last two matches, losing to Sassuolo before playing out a goalless draw against Genoa, and Bergomi feels that this is partly due to the cumulative effects of tiredness on the team.

“Inter are creating chances at the moment but they haven’t been as clear and decisive as they had been in the past,” he said.

“I still think they have played too much,” he added, “now they’re a tired team in terms of their important players.”

Bergomi also stated that “Both Dzeko and Lautaro are good, but they don’t pair together very well.”

“Inter always reach the goal through possession play,” he went on. “And Inzaghi’s is very expansive. I hope Correa can come back in optimal condition because he’s the only one in this Inter attack who offers different characteristics, he can beat his man.”

He noted that “Inter are fifth to last in terms of attempted and successful dribbles in Serie A.”
