Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi could decide to switch up his tactics ahead of this evening’s Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against AC Milan, going to a 3-5-1-1 system.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the coach could leave striker Lautaro Martinez out of the starting eleven and deviate from his usual 3-5-2 formation.

Inter have almost exclusively played with a 3-5-2 formation this system, the style most associated with Inzaghi since his time in charge of Lazio.

However, the coach had also used a 3-5-1-1 system at times when in charge of the Biancocelesti, using midfielder Luis Alberto behind the central striker.

At Inter, Inzaghi has a similar player to Alberto at his disposal in the form of Hakan Calhanoglu, who has played as part of the midfield trio this season.

Should the coach look to switch things up in attack, however, with the team having been misfiring in recent matches, he could use the 28-year-old behind Edin Dzeko who would lead the line.

In this case, it would be the out-of-form Martinez who could make way in the starting eleven, with Arturo Vidal completing the midfield trio.
