Inter have a potential advantage to exploit in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final against AC Milan in the form of the away goals rule.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who argue that the Nerazzurri must make the most of the fact that anything they score this evening at the San Siro will be counted as an “away goal.”

The Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri will face off at the San Siro as usual in both legs of the two-legged knockout tie, but the competition still has an away goals rule for the Coppa Italia for one more season.

As such, the first leg of the tie has been designated as a home game for Milan, while the second leg will be considered an Inter home game, despite being at the same stadium.

Both teams will have the opportunity to take advantage of the away goals rule in its last season in effect in the competition, and this evening will be Inter’s chance to get a potentially vital “away” goal.
