Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio wants the team to take this evening’s opportunity to get back into form with a win against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia.

Speaking to InterTV before the match, the 33-year-old emphasized the importance getting past the slump in form that the team has gone through in February with a derby victory.

The Nerazzurri have failed to win in their last four matches in Serie A, while they lost to Liverpool in the Champions League but beat Roma to earn a spot in the Champions League semi-finals this evening.

Now, they face their city rivals the Rossoneri in the first of a two-legged tie for a place in the final of the competition.

This match will give the team a chance to put their recent dip in form behind them and gain confidence, though it is also not without the risk of potentially deepening the feeling of crisis around the team.

“The derby is never a match like any other,” D’Ambrosio said. “We both come into it on the back of some negative results, because for us a draw is not good enough. This evening we want to turn the trend around and we’ll try to win.”

He continued that “In these matches, the desire we show to prevail over our opponents always gives us something more. We’ll do our best to win this match.”

“Derbies are always games all on their own,” he said, emphasizing that this fixture is not one where form often plays the same role as in other matches, “here there are 180 minutes.”

“It’s normal that a derby can give you an extra emotional boost in view of other matches,” he added, “so certainly, tonight can be the turning point.”
